Giedrė Šlekytė
Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, Giedrė Šlekytė began her musical education at the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art-School in Vilnius. She went on to study conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, the Academy of Music and Theatre in Leipzig, and the Zurich University of Arts. She also attended masterclasses by Bernhard Haitink and Riccardo Muti.
Last season Šlekytė made notable debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper (La Bohème) and the Royal Opera House in London (Hansel and Gretel), while returning to Musiktheater an der Wien for a new production of Das Paradies und die Peri and Staatsoper Berlin with The Pearl Fishers and Sacre. Symphonic engagements included debuts with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra—also her US debut—Philharmonia London, and Tokyo NHK Symphony, as well as returns to Münchner Philharmoniker, SWR Symphonieorchester, RSB Berlin, and Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.
Back in November 2023 she stepped in for Daniel Barenboim at short notice, conducting a highly-acclaimed Brahms’ cycle in Toronto with Berlin Staatskapelle, simultaneously making her Canadian and North American debut.
In 2025/26, Giedrė returns to Oper Zürich for a new production (Hansel & Gretel), RSB Berlin, DSO Berlin, Wiener Symphoniker at Musikverein, and the Royal Opera House for Le nozze di Figaro. She will also make exciting debuts with L.A. Philharmonic at Hollywood Bowl in August 2025, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
In 2016, Šlekytė was appointed Principal Conductor of Stadttheater Klagenfurt, where she led her first production—Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio. Operatic engagements since have included Bayerische Staatsoper, Oper Zürich, Staatsoper Berlin, Lithuanian National Opera and Semperoper Dresden. New productions under her direction included Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen at Musiktheater an der Wien, Kát’a Kabanová at Komische Oper Berlin, Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos at Royal Danish Opera, Dvořák’s Rusalka at Opera Ballett Vlaanderen, and Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites at Oper Frankfurt.
As a guest conductor, she has appeared with the Wiener Symphoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Tokyo Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Netherlands Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, and many others.
From 2022-25 Giedrė served as Principal Guest Conductor of Brucknerorchester Linz with many appraised concert performances.
Šlekytė was a finalist of the Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2015 and prize winner of the Malko International Young Conductors Competition in Copenhagen. In 2018, she was nominated in the "Newcomer" category of the International Opera Awards.
An active ambassador of Lithuanian music, she performs works by Raminta Šerkšnytė, Bronius Kutavičius, Osvaldas Balakauskas, Justė Janulytė, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, and others across Europe and beyond. Alongside conductor Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, she recorded an album of Raminta Šerkšnytė’s music for Deutsche Grammophon and the highly acclaimed Žibuoklė Martinaitytė album for Ondine.

Giedrė Šlekytė
Die in Österreich lebende litauische Dirigentin Giedrė Šlekytė begann ihre musikalische Ausbildung an der Nationalen M. K. Čiurlionis Kunstschule in Vilnius. Anschließend studierte sie Dirigieren an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig und an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. Außerdem besuchte sie Meisterkurse bei Bernhard Haitink und Riccardo Muti.
In der vergangenen Spielzeit 2024/25 gab Šlekytė ihr Debüt an der Wiener Staatsoper (La Bohème) und am Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London (Hänsel und Gretel), kehrte mit einer Neuproduktion von Das Paradies und die Peri ans Musiktheater an der Wien sowie mit Die Perlenfischer und Sacre an die Staatsoper Berlin zurück. Ihre symphonischen Projekte umfassten Debüts beim Dallas Symphony Orchestra – zugleich ihr Debüt in den USA –, Philharmonia London und Tokyo NHK Symphony sowie Wiedereinladungen zu den Münchner Philharmonikern, SWR Symphonieorchester, RSB Berlin und dem Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra. Bereits im November 2023 sprang sie sehr kurzfristig für Daniel Barenboim bei der Staatskapelle Berlin ein und dirigierte den kompletten Brahms-Zyklus in Toronto, zugleich ihr Debüt in Kanada und Nordamerika.
2025/26 kehrt Šlekytė mit einer Neuproduktion Hänsel & Gretel an die Oper Zürich zurück, dirigiert das RSB Berlin, DSO Berlin, Wiener Symphoniker im Musikverein sowie Le nozze di Figaro am Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Debüts hat sie u.a. beim L.A. Philharmonic im Hollywood Bowl im August 2025, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic und Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

Gemeinsam mit der Dirigentin Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla nahm sie ein Album mit Werken von Raminta Šerkšnytė für Deutsche Grammophon sowie das vielgepriesene Album mit Werken von Žibuoklė Martinaitytė für Ondine auf.

Giedrė Šlekytė
Austrijoje reziduojanti lietuvių dirigentė GIEDRĖ ŠLEKYTĖ, pirmuosius muzikos įgūdžius gavusi Nacionalinėje M. K. Čiurlionio menų mokykloje, vėliau dirigavimą studijavo Grace (Austrija), Leipcige (Vokietija) ir Ciuriche (Šveicarija). Tobulinosi B. Haitinko, R. Muti meistriškumo kursuose.
Kaip kviestinė dirigentė pasirodė su Vienos simfoniniu, Miuncheno filharmoniniu, Frankfurto radijo, Tokijo NHK, Tokijo Yomiuri Nippon, Dalaso simfoniniu, Dresdeno Staatskapelle, Barselonos simfoniniu, Švedijos radijo orkestrais, o taip pat ir su daugeliu Lietuvos kolektyvų – LNSO, LNOBT, LVSO, Šv. Kristoforo kameriniu, Lietuvos kameriniu, Klaipėdos kameriniu ir Kauno simfoniniu orkestrais.
2023-ųjų lapkritį, pakeitusi susirgusį dirigentą Danielį Barenboimą, su Berlyno Staatskapelle orkestru atliko itin aukšto įvertinimo sulaukusį J. Brahmso simfonijų ciklą Toronte.
Giedrė Šlekytė ypatingą dėmesį skiria operos žanrui. Dirigavo Vienos valstybinėje operoje, Londono Karališkojoje operoje, Bavarijos valstybinėje operoje Miunchene, Ciuricho operoje, Berlyno valstybinėje operoje, Lietuvos nacionaliniame operos ir baleto teatre, Drezdeno Semperoper. Tarp įsimintiniausių naujų operos pastatymų L. Janáčeko "Laputės gudruolės nuotykiai" Vienos muzikiniame teatre, "Katia Kabanova" Berlyno Komiškojoje operoje, R. Strausso "Ariadnė Nakse" Karališkojoje Danijos operoje, A. Dvořáko "Rusalka" Flamandų operoje, F. Poulenco "Karmeličių dialogai" Frankfurto operoje.
2025-2026 m. sezoną debiutuoja su Los Andželo filharmonijos orkestru Hollywood Bowl, Roterdamo, Tuluzo, Antverpeno, DSO Berlyno, Karališkuoju Škotijos orkestrais bei grįžta į Ciuricho operą, Londono Karališkąjį operos teatrą, Berlyno radijo, Vienos simfoninį, Barselonos simfoninį orkestrus.
2016 m. G. Šlekytė buvo paskirta Klagenfurto miesto teatro pagrindine dirigente ir čia parengė pirmąjį savo pastatymą – W. A. Mozarto operą „Pagrobimas iš Seralio“. Nuo tada klausytojai ir spauda jaunajai lietuvių maestrai negaili pagyrimų ir mini jos interpretacijų gaivumą, preciziškumą bei dinamiškumą. Pasibaigus sutarčiai su Klagenfurto teatru, nuo 2018 m. ji pasirinko laisvai samdomos dirigentės karjerą ir sėkmingai derina operinį bei simfoninį dirigavimą, toliau gyvendama Klagenfurte.
2015 m. dirigentė tapo Zalcburgo festivalio jaunųjų dirigentų konkurso finalininke bei Tarptautinio N. Malko jaunųjų dirigentų konkurso Kopenhagoje prizininke. 2018 m. buvo nominuota „naujoko“ kategorijoje Tarptautiniuose operos apdovanojimuose.
G. Šlekytė yra aktyvi lietuvių muzikos ambasadorė, Austrijoje, Švedijoje, Čekijoje, Vokietijoje ir Izraelyje atliko R. Šerkšnytės, B. Kutavičiaus, O. Balakausko, J. Janulytės, M. K. Čiurlionio, kitų lietuvių kompozitorių opusus. Su dirigente Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla įrašė R. Šerkšnytės muzikos albumą, kurį išleido tarptautinė įrašų kompanija „Deutsche Grammophon“, taip pat ypač teigimai įvertintą Ž. Martinaitytės kūrybos albumą, kuri išleido „Ondine“.
